    Faculty for Justice in Palestine

Faculty for Justice in Palestine (FJP) is a national network of faculty members advocating for Palestinian rights within U.S. academic institutions. FJP promotes the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement as a means to pressure Israeli policies they perceive as oppressive. The organization’s primary objective is to protect and advance academic freedom for those supporting Palestinian solidarity and to mobilize faculty members to engage in pro-Palestinian activism

    Types of Activity

    • Protests and Advocacy: FJP chapters participate in campus protests, often joining forces with student groups like SJP, to disrupt or boycott events featuring pro-Israel speakers. They promote academic boycotts, encouraging departments and institutions to sever ties with Israeli universities and cultural programs.
    • Educational Campaigns: FJP organizes panels, lectures, and workshops, aiming to educate faculty and students about Palestinian issues and promote solidarity efforts. The organization often publishes open letters and petitions advocating for institutional policy changes in favor of Palestinian rights

    Notable Actions

    • Protest at UC Berkeley (2023): FJP was involved in demonstrations against a university conference featuring Israeli speakers. The protests led to disruptions and heightened tensions with university administrators and pro-Israel student groups.
    • Divestment Resolution Campaigns: FJP has supported several successful resolutions across U.S. campuses, urging universities to divest from companies associated with Israel’s military activities. These campaigns have influenced campus policies and provoked backlash from opposing groups
