The University of Washington (UW) has once again become the site of a disturbing and brazen display of antisemitism, as a student-organized rally celebrated Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas terrorist behind the October 7 massacre in Israel.
With antisemitic sentiment spiraling out of control at UW and campus leadership showing little urgency in addressing it, there is a pressing need for federal intervention. The Trump administration must act swiftly to investigate UW and impose serious consequences for enabling a hostile environment where Jewish students are left vulnerable.
Pro-Hamas Chants and Martyr Glorification
At the rally, held in a public space on UW’s campus while classes were in session, speakers proudly praised terrorists and rallied attendees with sickening chants.
“We say glory to our martyrs. Glory to the resistance. We salute the prisoners and the people,” a speaker declared before leading the crowd in unison.
That wasn’t all. The mob, many of whom cowardly hid behind masks, also chanted:
“Yahya Sinwar, you set the bar! Yahya Sinwar, you left a scar!”
This was not a protest. This was a celebration of terrorism. The participants made their allegiances clear—praising a mass murderer while standing on American soil, at an American university.
UW Administration: Silent, Yet Again
Despite the vile nature of the event, the UW administration did what it always does when it comes to antisemitism—essentially nothing.
The Students United for Palestinian Equality & Return (SUPER UW), a radical hate group responsible for organizing the rally, was previously suspended as a registered student organization due to vandalism and policy violations tied to antisemitic activism. However, UW still allows them to operate freely, organize demonstrations, and spread their rhetoric unchecked.
Weak Condemnation, No Action
UW eventually issued a weak statement after being pressed by conservative radio host Jason Rantz. But rather than making a campus-wide condemnation, the administration buried its response.
“We understand that chants and signs during a protest on Wednesday evening were deeply hurtful to many, particularly members of the Jewish community on our campus and beyond. While the First Amendment protects such speech and the university must uphold protesters’ right to speak, we absolutely condemn the celebration of violent organizations and individuals that was on display, and is not representative of the UW or its students.” — UW Spokesperson Victor Balta
If UW truly condemned the event, they would publicly denounce it and take serious disciplinary action. Instead, they chose weak language, an optional statement, and no tangible consequences—effectively siding with those who spread hate on their campus.
A Stark Double Standard: UW’s Hypocrisy on Hate Speech
This isn’t about free speech—it’s about a university choosing to look the other way when the victims are Jewish.
Compare UW’s response to this hate rally with how they reacted to other events:
- When Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) began targeting violent criminal illegal immigrants, UW’s outgoing president Ana Marie Cauce quickly issued a statement expressing concern for students.
- She offered support, resources, and even legal aid for undocumented students who feared deportation.
- Yet, when Jewish students fear for their safety after pro-terror rallies, the university offers no such concern—just a muted, hesitant response buried in a media statement.
Why does UW go out of its way to support certain groups but ignore Jewish students under attack?
Why the Trump Administration Must Investigate UW
This ongoing tolerance of antisemitism at UW should not be ignored. With a documented pattern of hate rallies, illegal encampments, and blatant celebrations of terrorism, the federal government must investigate UW immediately.
The university has failed in its responsibility to provide a safe learning environment for all students, and its refusal to take action against radical groups on campus justifies federal intervention.
Jewish students deserve to study without fear, yet UW allows pro-Hamas activists to intimidate and terrorize them on campus. It’s time for real consequences.
The Trump administration must investigate, and if necessary, impose sanctions on UW until they take antisemitism as seriously as they take every other form of discrimination. Enough is enough.
