Mohamed Abdou, a self-described “North African-Egyptian Muslim anarchist,” has used his academic platform to spread antisemitic rhetoric, glorify terrorism, and advocate for the destruction of America and Israel. A former visiting professor at Columbia University’s Middle East Institute, Abdou’s legacy is one of hate, radicalization, and terror apologism. His involvement in pro-Hamas activism, his open calls for violent resistance, and his history of justifying terror make him a dangerous figure influencing students.
Mohamed Abdou: A Mouthpiece for Hamas and Violent Resistance
Abdou has been an outspoken supporter of Hamas, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization responsible for the October 7, 2023, massacre of 1,200 civilians. His statements celebrate Hamas’s actions, glorify violent resistance, and attempt to justify terrorism.
- January 6, 2024 – Abdou declared in a YouTube interview: “I might be with Hamas and support the resistance, absolutely.”
- November 30, 2023 – Abdou praised Hamas fighters, stating, “You don’t need mass movements to change the world. You need a few thousand that are really organized.”
- October 16, 2023 – Abdou posted a prayer for Hamas terrorists, calling for their “victory over the oppressors.”
By championing Hamas’s murder of civilians, Abdou has aligned himself with a group whose atrocities rival those of ISIS. His rhetoric serves as direct incitement, glorifying terrorist attacks on innocent people and pushing for further violence.
Denial of Hamas’s War Crimes
In addition to supporting Hamas, Abdou has actively denied their well-documented war crimes, including the beheading of infants and the mass rape of women.
- May 7, 2024 – Abdou was caught on video denying that Hamas beheaded babies during the October 7 attacks, stating: “There is no evidence of beheaded babies.”
This blatant falsehood, comparable to Holocaust denial, is a common tactic among antisemitic propagandists seeking to erase the horrors of October 7.
Hatred for America: Rejecting Citizenship, Calling for Violence
Abdou’s hatred for the United States is as virulent as his antisemitism. He has openly rejected American values and identity, while calling for violent revolution.
- February 15, 2024 – Speaking at Columbia, he stated: “I don’t pledge allegiance to no American flag. I don’t call myself an American… It’s a white supremacist order.”
- Same event – He explicitly called decolonization an inherently violent process, justifying radical upheaval: “The onset of decolonization is inherently a violent act. There is no undoing the violence.”
- April 2024 – Participated in the Columbia University pro-Hamas encampment, where protesters harassed Jewish students and chanted violent slogans.
Abdou rejects peaceful coexistence and instead calls for violent revolution—aligning himself with radical movements that seek to dismantle American institutions.
Glorifying Known Terrorists
Beyond his praise for Hamas, Abdou has celebrated Palestinian and domestic terrorists, including Fatima Bernawi, a convicted terrorist who attempted to bomb a crowded movie theater.
- November 3, 2023 – Abdou posted: “Black Palestinian revolutionary Fatima Bernawi…”
- October 7, 2023 – Abdou praised Hamas’s “Al-Aqsa Flood” attack as a “valiant military operation.”
By celebrating violent extremists, Abdou is indoctrinating students into a radical ideology that supports terror, murder, and the targeting of civilians.
A Dangerous Influence: Leading the Pro-Hamas Encampment at Columbia
Abdou’s radical activism reached new levels in April 2024 when he was an active participant in the violent Columbia encampment. The encampment saw:
- Jewish students harassed and physically blocked from campus facilities.
- Open support for Hamas and calls for “intifada” (violent uprising).
- The storming of Hamilton Hall, where radicals took Columbia custodians hostage.
- Confiscated weapons including knives and hammers.
- May 7, 2024 – Abdou boasted: “I’ve taught…the last two weeks at the encampment…I actually was the first professor to do that.”
His direct involvement in radicalizing students and promoting violent activism makes him a clear and present danger in academic settings.
Columbia’s Response: Abdou Banned for Life
Columbia University eventually recognized the danger Abdou posed and announced that he would never be allowed to teach there again.
- April 17, 2024 – Columbia’s president Minouche Shafik testified before Congress: “He is grading his students’ papers and will never teach at Columbia again.”
Despite this, Abdou continues to spread hate and recruit for extremist causes, both online and through his affiliations with pro-terror groups like Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP).
Mohamed Abdou: A Professor of Hate and Terror Apologism
Abdou’s unapologetic support for Hamas, denial of their atrocities, deep-rooted antisemitism, and open calls for violent revolution make him one of the most dangerous academics in the U.S. today. His participation in the Columbia encampment, glorification of terrorism, and outright rejection of American identity prove that he is not an educator, but an extremist indoctrinator.
As universities continue to battle rising antisemitism and radicalization on campus, Abdou serves as a prime example of academia’s failure to hold extremists accountable—until the damage is already done.
